CALL FOR SUBMISSIONS

We are pleased to invite you to submit your abstract to the 11th PUBMET2024 Conference on Scholarly Communication in the Context of Open Science, which will be held at the University of Zadar, Croatia from 12 to 13 September 2024.

This year’s PUBMET2024 will explore the core of open scholarly communication by focusing on the central theme of research assessment. We invite speakers and presenters to examine the challenges ingrained in this process, including transparency, bias mitigation, robustness, cost-effectiveness and efficiency optimisation. Moreover, we aim to continue discussions on enhancing peer review mechanisms, encompassing reviewer diversity, role clarification, capacity building, technological advancements and promoting openness.

SUBMISSIONS

The organisers of the PUBMET2024 conference invite you to submit an abstract that describes the main idea of your work, its scholarly or practical relevance, and innovative scientific and/or societal impact on the following topics: Submissions on Research Assessment will be presented as short talks or posters after acceptance. Here are some possible Research Assessment topics:
  • challenges for research assessment processes (transparency, bias, reviewers pool, robustness, cost and efficiency),
  • responsible use of proxies and metrics,
  • recognising the value of a broad range of scientific outputs,
  • content-based research assessment, how to “measure” intrinsic value,
  • peer review (roles, capacity building – training, technology, enhancement, openness),
  • equity, diversity, inclusion and belonging,
  • transformative initiatives.
Other Open Science topics will be presented as posters after acceptance:
  • open publications, data, databases, code, software, preprints, patents, commercial products, instruments, practice developments, educational materials, policy publications,
  • open infrastructures and services, repositories,
  • quality of scholarly publishing, best practices,
  • research integrity in open science, EDIB (equity, diversity, inclusion and belonging), multilingualism,
  • open education, capacity building,
  • OS policies and strategies, diamond model of scholarly publishing
  • citizen science.
Please send your submissions via EasyChair (free account required). If you encounter any technical difficulties with submission via EasyChair, please contact us at pubmet@unizd.hr. For abstract preparation use the following template.  All submissions will be peer-reviewed by the programme committee and/or the review board. After acceptance, you will be asked to upload a short biography and a photo.

PRESENTATIONS

Accepted submissions should be presented at the conference venue in Zadar, either as:

  • a short talk up to 10 min presented live, or
  • a poster presentation (printed poster 70x100cm (B1) or 84x120cm (A0) + up to 5 min talk).

All types of presentations are delivered in the English language.

PUBLICATION

Accepted abstracts will be published in the PUBMET2024 Book of Abstracts, and indexed by major scholarly databases, aggregators and search engines.

Depending on the topic, validity and significance of the content, authors are invited to submit a full paper for publication in international, peer reviewed, diamond open access journals European Science Editing or Libellarium. The papers will be published under a Creative Commons Attribution License (CC-BY 4.0).

All accepted abstracts, corresponding posters, short talk presentations, and recordings will be published on the conference website. Posters and short talk presentations must be licensed at least as CC-BY 4.0.

  • Short talk abstract submission deadline: 10 June 1 July 20 July (acceptance notification: 1 July 1 August 2024)
  • Poster abstract submission deadline: 1 July 20 July (acceptance notification: 1 August 2024)
  • Registration deadline for author(s) of accepted submissions: 15 August 2024
  • Presentation and/or poster upload deadline: 10 September 2024
  • Full paper submission deadline: 30 November 2024
